How About Those Free Legal Forms?
Many people will try to save money when preparing their legal documents and planing their estate. Simply type into a search engine online and download whatever is the result. It makes sense that people will want to do this. Besides, the legal system is open to the public. Internet providers access to “free fillable forms” and inexpensive “fill in the blank” documents at the office supply store.. Proceed with caution with these kinds of offerings.
Do you trust your legal situation to a generic form?
Having a deep understanding and knowledge of how the legal system actually works is acquired by many years of working in the field, education, and annual certification. Your “cheap alternative legal document” might not be valid no matter what kind of guarantee that the publisher provides.
Are you sure that you understand all of the legal language? I can’t tell you how many times I had to re-write and re-work those legal forms when clients called in panic. Not to mention that you might not find a notary to actually notarize those papers. Will they help you in the court system?
Doing it right the first time
Doing it right the first time can save you much more in the long run. Legal documents that don’t address your actual legal needs will not protect you and potentially hurt you.
Even some popular online legal form repositories, offered nationwide online, are published only for a certain State. Hence, those easy online documents are only legal in the State where the documents were published and written according to that other States’ laws and statutes.
