What is the difference between Paralegal and Legal Document Preparer:
The most basic difference is that the paralegal works for attorney. Legal document preparer is not supervised by the attorney.
If I am a Legal Document Preparer, I am also recognized as an Independent Paralegal or Legal Technician. In the State of Arizona I do not have to be supervised by the attorney. The State Arizona offer a program that requires your legal document preparer to be licensed by the supreme court.
In most of the states legal technicians do not require a license, but often face problems with possible unauthorized legal practice. In Arizona there is a clear definition what would constitute such practice.
With that said, many paralegal specific in one area of law practice by their attorneys.
Legal Document Preparers often do not specialize in one area, but prepare legal documents that do not need specific legal advice and are also available to general public in some sort of templates.
